WATCH: Driver instantly regrets decision to overtake slow-moving traffic when THIS happens
A VIDEO has revealed why you should never be in a rush on the motorway to overtake slow-moving traffic.
RECKLESS driver learns a harsh lesson
The hard shoulder should only be used if you need to stop in an emergency or a car breakdown.
It is essentially a clear area of road where the driver can stop safely and get out of the flow of traffic.
It should never be used to overtake or avoid heavy traffic, unless drivers have been directed to do so by the highways authority.
But one impatient driver decided to take his chances, and overtake slow-moving traffic by driving in the empty lane.
A reckless driver decided to over take slow-moving traffic in the empty lane on the motorway
In a video uploaded to Imgur, with the caption ‘Instant karma’, a silver car appeared out of nowhere in the empty right hand lane on a motorway - presumably not in the UK.
The driver traveled at some speed, clearly in a rush to where he wanted to go, and didn’t foresee what was about to happen.
Suddenly, the empty lane began to narrow and disappear - but the driver was travelling so fast, he was unable to slow down in time.
A barrier at the edge of the motorway appeared, and driver had no choice but to crash into it, to avoid hitting any other cars or falling into the area of woodland.
Reckless driving video: The driver didn't foresee what was about to happen
Other drivers on the road were unsympathetic.
One 4x4 breaks when the car hits the barrier, but is quick to drive on after.
The video, titled ‘karma’, was uploaded to Imgur, and revealed a driver’s dangerous actions - and the unfortunate aftermath.
Reckless driving video: The car ended up hitting the barrier which suddenly appeared
Filmed on another car’s dash cam, the speeding vehicle suddenly appears in the same camera shot as it attempts to overtake the car filming.
But as it manoeuvres, it misses another car coming in the other direction by a matter of seconds.
The driver of the car manages to veer to the right side of the road again, but doesn’t foresee the upcoming sharp bend in the road.
The back type of the vehicle ends up clipping the edge of the road and the driver loses control.
