Grandad teaches himself how to KNIT so he can make tiny hats for premature babies
AN 86-YEAR-OLD grandad has taken up a new hobby in the form of knitting, and has now made more than 50 hats for premature babies at his local hospital.
Ed Moseley taught himself how to knit so he could make hats for premature babies
Ed Moseley, a retired engineer and resident at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living in Acworth, Georgia, USA, recently learn to knit after staff brought in a new programme to help premature babies at nearby Northside Hospital.
With a helping hand from friends and family, Ed used a loom kit to get stuck in to the project and quickly taught himself how to knit.
Soon after, Ed became a knitting machine, having knitted handles of hats in a short space of time, and has made quite a name for himself amongst the community.
Ed told ABC News: “I prevailed on my daughter to get a kit, and it comes with the right size loom and the right tools to help you knit one.

“I just followed the instructions. It was easy. Somehow I had never knitted, and I always associated knitting with a bunch of needles but this looked pretty doable for me.
“I went through two or three before I came out with a good finished product.”
Ed has knitted more than 50 hats himself in a variety of colours and patterns.
But alongside helping the premature babies at the hospital, Ed has inspired others to take up the hobby.

Other residents and staff at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living want to try their hand at knitting, as well as children at the school where his granddaughter works.
People have also been donating yarn to Ed and dropping off their own hats to add to the collections.
Thanks to Ed’s efforts, more than 30 babies will have a hat of their own to keep their head warm.
Ed’s hat making has helped the babies at the hospital and inspired others to get involved.
Ed enjoys knitting while watching his favourite sport golf on TV
But another perk to Ed’s knitting is it gives him something to do while he is watching his favourite sport on TV - golf.
Ed has now turned to knitting caps for all of his grandkids.
As soon as the headset was on, the grandad started throwing punches with the controls, almost knocking one of his grandsons out.
