Good sports: Top 10 facts about the Brownlee brothers
AS ALISTAIR BROWNLEE adds a Commonwealth triathlon gold to his Olympic, world and European medal collection, we reveal 10 things you didn't know about him and his sporting brother Jonathan
Yorkshire brothers Alistair and Jonathan - nicknamed Jonny - Brownlee are both world champion triathletes.
They compete in the one of the world's most gruelling sports, which sees them undertake a 1,500m swim followed by a 43km bike ride and finished off with a 10km run.
At London 2012, they became the first brothers to stand together on the podium in an individual sport at the Olympic Games since 1908.
Alistair, 26, scooped gold, while his younger brother Jonny, 24, took bronze.
As they continue their success at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - Alistair winning gold and Jonny close behind with a silver medal - we round up the top Brownlee trivia.
HOME GROWN
Born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, the Brownlee brothers credit their sporting success to the rugged northern terrain.
Alistair said: "When you get out of bed every morning to train, it helps if you are inspired by the landscape."
BROTHERLY LOVE
The boys says they are best friends - but also bitter rivals.
When Alistair represented Great Britain at junior level, Jonathan remembers thinking, "I want that".
INTERNET CRAZE
Not only are the brothers rivals in sport but they also compete on social media, too.
Alistair has racked up an impressive 111,104 Twitter followers, while Jonny is trailing behind with 85,159.
WORK IT
Alistair and Jonny's average training week plan is 35 hours long, split across the three triathlon sports.
They do about 20 hours of cycling, 10 hours of running and five hours swimming.
They admit it's "quite a lot of training".
READY FOR BATTLE
The brothers say there's no compassion between them when something goes wrong.
Alistair says: "We're more extreme with each other, but generally we're not very sympathetic."
While Jonny adds: "If Alistair comes first in a race, and he comes home, I'll be like 'That was rubbish'. Or he'll do the exact same to me."
THIRD MAN
Alistair and Jonny have a younger brother called Edward.
But Jonny says he "prefers rugby", adding: "He is a bigger build but he never had the same determination."
SCHOOL'S OUT
While they compete over sport, Alistair says he "wasn't bothered" when Jonny got better GCSEs than him.
However, Alistair had already gained a place at Cambridge University to study medicine and won the junior triathlon world championship by then.
CHAMPIONS
To become a world class triathlete Alistair says you need to be dedicated.
"You've got to be a little bit obsessional. You've got to be very good at motivating yourself because you're pushing yourself to extremes."
ROOM MATES
Alistair is Jonny's landlord but the younger Brownlee says he "can't face" paying his own brother rent.
IN THE FAMILY
The Brownlee brothers were introduced to the sport by their uncle Simon Hearnshaw, who is also a triathlete.
