You can trust your gut to pick the right romantic partner
WHEN it comes to finding “The One” you really do need to trust your gut.
Psychologists have discovered that gut feeling is a better predictor of wedded bliss than what people say.
James McNulty, an associate professor of psychology at Florida State University, studied 135 newlywed couples over a four-year period.
Their gut-feeling responses were measured by flashing a picture of their spouse on a screen for a third of a second and asking them whether the accompanying word was positive or negative.
Those with positive feelings about their partner were quick to identify positive words but slower to spot negative ones.
People who unwittingly revealed negative attitudes during the test reported the most marital dissatisfaction after four years.
Prof McNulty, whose study is published in the journal Science, said: “If their gut is telling them there is a problem, then they might benefit from exploring that.”
