If your trusty iron is on the way out or you fancy trying a lighter option, now is the time to replace it as Amazon is offering a big discount on one of its best-selling steam irons. Ahead of Amazon Prime Day on July 16-17, the online giant has knocked 65% off the Russell Hobbs Supreme Steam Iron.

For a limited time, shoppers can get their hands on the 'lightweight' purple iron for £17.56, down from £49.99. It has 2400W of power enabling it to heat up quickly and has a non-stick stainless steel soleplate that ensures even heat distribution and a smooth glide to get rid of the toughest of creases.

The soft-touch handle provides comfort while ironing and the big dial makes it easy to adjust the settings. The Russell Hobbs iron has a large 300ml water tank which enables you to get through a big pile of items, which is particularly handy for larger households.

The iron also has a useful spray function that allows you to remove stubborn creases in one go. Thanks to the Supreme Steam Iron's powerful vertical steam function, you can take conventional ironing to the next level and steam hanging garments with ease.

The two-metre cord ensures enough flexibility to iron where you feel most comfortable, including in front of the telly. It has a self-clean function that helps to protect the iron from scale damage, prolonging the performance and life of the gadget.

The Russell Hobbs Supreme Steam Iron is an Amazon's Choice product and has over 24,000 reviews, with an overall rating of 4.4 out of five. One shopper wrote: "Considering this iron is inexpensive and lightweight, it's pretty impressive as it even managed to remove the creases from my cotton bedding."

A second said: "I'm amazed by the quality of this iron. I haven't got to the bottom of my ironing pile in about five years because I hate ironing so much, but with the Russell Hobbs steam iron I got through my ironing pile in a couple of sittings - now that is saying something!"

Another added: "This iron isn't the most expensive but it really irons beautifully and is so nice, light and easy to use."

Unfortunately, one customer had an issue with the length of the cord, but they still gave it four stars and explained: "I purchased this iron as I wanted a lighter one - this is definitely a lightweight iron.

"However, the cord is quite short and I need to use an extension lead in certain rooms… The steam is good and I use the extra shot of steam when necessary. Very good value for money."

You can buy the Russell Hobbs Supreme Steam Iron from Amazon for £17.56 for a limited time. Currys is selling the same iron for £21.99, while Tesco has it for £21. If you're looking for an alternative steam iron, Argos has the Tower T22008 2-in-1 Steam Iron currently on sale for £24. John Lewis has a Speed Steam Iron for £25.
