The state pension is paid to many UK retirees if they are eligible, and differs from a private pension. The former comes from a fund from the government, and pensioners must have reached state pension age in order to claim it. If you are eligible to receive the state pension, the date you are paid the instalment may vary to usual during the Christmas period. So, when can you expect your payment to be processed during the festive season this year?
In order to avoid confusion, the government has released a list of when you can expect your state pension to be paid.
According to the website’s guide, this is the same time as when other government benefits payments will be made.
The date it’s paid will vary depending on when you are usually due to receive the payment, with some people being paid earlier in the month than usual.

The day you typically receive your state pension depends on one particular factor.
This is the two digits at the end of your national insurance number.
For instance, if these two numbers are within the bracket of 00 to 19, you’ll be paid on a Monday.
Likewise, those with their final two digits between 20 to 39, will be paid on a Tuesday.
This goes on right up until the digits 80 to 99 - who get paid on a Friday.
The basic state pension is usually paid every four weeks in arrears.
The government also explains that the new state pension is usually paid every four weeks - also in arrears.
During December, some people may notice that they have been paid more than they had expected.
That’s because some will be eligible for a tax-free Christmas bonus.
This is a £10 sum of money, and will automatically be paid to those who qualify.
