He vowed to get fit, cut out the takeaways and enrolled on an annual week-long boot camp in Marbella, Spain.
Since then, he has completed 10km races in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the London to Paris bike ride and has even trekked to the base camp of Mount Everest.
He has dropped from a size XXXL to a Large and lost 10 inches from his waistline.

Dave was 18 stone when he tried to scale Snowdon to celebrate his 45th birthday but he was so fat he had to give up just a third of the way up the 3,500ft peak and take the train.
On his return, he had to take four days off work.
The electrical business boss was diagnosed as having Type 2 diabetes. He said: “The doctor told me I’d be fine if I managed it with pills. I didn’t want that and said to him, ‘No, I’ll lose weight’.”
Father-of-three Dave, now 49, from Barking in Essex, said: “I really hated who I was before. But now I’m happy in my skin. I went out with my wife Wendy last week and came down in my suit and she said to me, ‘You look hot’.”
