Time bomb: Men unaware of the dangers of prostate cancer
THOUSANDS of men are unaware of the dangers from prostate cancer.
Men are walking around like ticking time bombs, completely oblivious to the dangers they face
Owen Sharp of Prostate Cancer UK said: “Men are walking around like ticking time bombs, completely oblivious to the dangers they face.”
A survey found four out of five men have no idea they are at higher than average risk of developing the disease which kills one man every hour.
That means they may never talk to their GP about the cancer – and miss out on an early diagnosis, when treatment is most effective.
Mr Sharp added: “Black men, men over the age of 50 or those with a family history of the disease face a higher than average risk of prostate cancer than other men.”
With no accurate tests for the disease, speaking to a doctor is a man’s chief defence.
