Breakthrough hope in war on Alzheimer's
HOPES of a cure for Alzheimer’s have risen after a breakthrough study about how the brain tries to protect itself from its toxic ravages.
Researchers have identified a protein and how it fights a virulent reaction that harms brain cells.
It is now hoped the findings, from the Canada’s University of Western Ontario published in the Journal of Neuroscience, will lead to new drugs that will replicate the process.
Dr Simon Ridley, of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “This study has highlighted a potential new avenue for investigation but it is vital we step up research.”
