'I'm a dentist - the real reason your teeth are yellow even if you always brush them'
Having teeth that sparkle a bright white is possible thanks to a US-based dentists advice that's shocked social media users.

As many can attest to, there’s nothing quite as lovely as a beautiful smile revealing a row of pearly white teeth.
For many, however, no matter how much they try, achieving bright white teeth is simply unattainable.
Turns out, the more you try to make them whiter, the worse it can impact your overall oral health, warns Dr Zainab Mackie.
This means that many suffer with the dreaded yellow hue on their teeth no matter what they do.
Fortunately, Dr Mackie provided some great insight into this conundrum offering key tips to help you achieve a bright white smile.

Dr Mackie shared her oral knowledge in a TikTok video responding to a man concerned that he "brushes everyday" to no avail as he "still has yellow teeth".
The Michigan-based dentist explained how many commit one of the cardinal sins when it comes to teeth brushing, which is doing more harm than good.
In the response video, Dr Mackie said: "You might be brushing too hard, stripping away that white enamel."
Being too enthusiastic with your teeth brushing is known to erode the hard outer layer of your teeth. This is what coats them and protects them from damage.
Aggressive brushing can damage your teeth and also expose the dentin layer underneath your teeth, which is a yellow-brown in color.

Dr Mackie said the other cardinal sin that’s keeping your teeth yellow is your diet and lifestyle,
The obvious lifestyle factors keeping your gnashers from being white includes smoking, and consuming certain drinks and snacks.
Being on certain medications are also known to cause yellowing teeth including antibiotics, blood pressure medications, and antihistamines
"If you drink too much pop, that's going to stain your teeth," said the dentist, adding: "Acidic fruit juices are definitely a teeth stainer."
Fortunately there are ways to help remedy your yellow teeth woes.
Dr Mackie explains that by using a straw, you can help keep the enamel strong even when consuming fizzy drinks or coffee.
Social media users flooded the comment section praising Dr Mackie and her oral health advice with one saying: "So I've been brushing too hard!!"
Another cheekily added: "Watching while drinking a whole bottle of coke."
