Jasmine will bloom bigger and better this summer by adding 1 item to the soil
A gardening expert shared the one type of plant feed that will help jasmine flowers to bloom during the summer months.
Summer is just a few weeks away, with gardeners preparing for a wondrous display of blooms to come out in the summer. If you’re looking to give your garden a strong fragrance along with some beautiful flowers, you should consider star jasmine.
Star jasmine is perfect for growing up walls or fenders, and gives off a wonderful and pungent aroma in the garden. To help ensure you get the most out of your jasmine this year, gardening expert and TikTok creator Ish explained that there’s a key type of plant feed that should be added to the soil to encourage flowers to bloom this summer. Once you’ve noticed a collection of buds forming on the star jasmine, Ish recommended introducing tomato feed to the plant.

When an abundance of buds have appeared, apply tomato feed once every couple of weeks right the way throughout the summer season.
However, if your star jasmine doesn’t have a small collection of buds ready to flower yet, you can give it an extra boost before adding the tomato feed. Ish previously explained that feeding the plant can make a “massive difference” when it comes to the amount of flowers blooming.
For this method, gardeners should add a slow-releasing feed like bloodfish or bone, or slow-releasing feed pellets right at the base of the plant. This should’ve been done in mid-spring before the buds arrived.
Ish said: “Now, if it’s green like this and happy and healthy, it’s getting feed but it’s probably getting high nitrogen, and as a result, it’s not got the right nutrients down there in order to flower.

“Whereas something like tomato feed is high in potassium, which means, pour that right down there every couple weeks or so, and you should end up with some jasmine flowers.”
To help ensure the jasmine is getting enough nutrients in the soil, gardeners can add a good layer of mulch or multipurpose compost around the base. Ish explained that a slow-releasing feed is going to help build its foundation and help the plant grow bushier on top further down the line.
Adding a tomato feed can be used in place of pruning, which Ish explained should be done in autumn or winter.
You want to check the condition of the plant, making sure it’s looking green and healthy. Ish noted that if the star jasmine plant is looking a little yellow, it could be down to poor nutrition or dehydration from a lack of water.
To test this, simply poke a few fingers in the soil and if the soil is dry, give it a generous amount of water. It’s also advisable to make sure that the plant is positioned in a sunny spot in the garden.
Star jasmine thrives in sunlight, so keep it away from any shady spots. Ish explained that getting around six to eight hours of sunlight a day can really help bolster the yield of jasmine.
