Peace lilies may not flower if you continuously make 'big mistake' that can stress plant
Peace lily owners could be making a "big mistake" when it comes to caring for their plants. Repeatedly making this same error could stop the houseplant from flowering.
Taking to his TikTok channel, Tanner The Planter - who owns a plant shop with his partner – revealed the biggest stressor for peace lily houseplants. One of the "biggest mistakes" people make when it comes to caring for a peace lily plant is related to the watering schedule.
In the video, he explained: "The biggest mistake people make when watering their peace lily is waiting until the leaves droop." By continually waiting for the plant to dramatically wilt before watering, you are essentially stressing the plant out. "That constant, you know, recovery and shock – and recovery and shock – it puts the plant in quite a bit of stress," the plant enthusiast elaborated. "As a result, it might not flower."

Instead of waiting for the peace lily to wilt before hydrating the plant, it's best to wait for the soil to become 25% dry at the top.
This would be about the equivalent of a finger knuckle deep to check the dryness of the soil.
Should the peace lily plant require watering, it's best to give it a "really good soak."
This helps to prevent the plant from wilting and also protects the plant against root rot. "So you're going to maximise your growth that way," he added.

While the plant guru acknowledged that some people could "get away" with letting the peace lily wilt between watering sessions, this is not the best scenario.
"Don’t wait for them to wilt in between watering," he emphasised.
There is another factor to consider when looking after your peace lily plant, and wanting it to flower beautifully.
"If you want your peace lily to thrive and to flower, you need to put it in a bright light scenario," the expert stated.
Peace lily care tips
Experts at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) advised keeping a peace lily plant "near a window but not in direct summer sun—to ensure strong growth and flowering."
While the peace lily plant can "survive" in shady spots, it will "rarely flower" in this type of environment.
They also thrive in temperatures between 12 and 24°C, away from any cold draughts.
The plant also likes high humidity, so regularly misting the plant is also recommended.
