Frozen chips will be crispier and tastier if coated in 1 ingredient before cooking
Frozen chips lie in most people's freezers as they're tasty and make for an easy dinner; however, coating them in a simple ingredient makes them crispier.

Most people love frozen chips as they're tasty, easy to cook and a good staple to have in the freezer; however, little you may know, there's a simple method you can use to make them tastier. While it's quick to bung them in the oven for ease, taking the time to add a certain ingredient could make the world of difference to the food's texture and flavour.
The recipe was recently shared online and many people are now eager to try the hack out. After all, it's hard not to want to elevate your meals to the next level when you only need a simple ingredient to do so.
Posting on TikTok, a content creator known as Papazu Food, explained exactly what people need to know. It comes after chefs were asked how to make oven chips taste better back last year.
Alongside the footage, he detailed what people need to do. To pull off the cooking method, he said you'll need a good oven tray and a bag of frozen chips.
As well as this, you'll need some oil and salt. From here, you can easily take your chips to the next level.
He explained: "Get your oven around 200, line an oven tray with baking paper and put your portion of frozen chips down. Don’t overfill your oven tray or they won’t all crisp up.
"Hit the chips with oil and straight into the oven for 20 minutes. Then take them out and mash them up a bit with your tongs. Don’t be afraid with the tongs - go hard, as that is what creates the crisp.
"Hit them with a touch more oil and back in the oven for 20 more minutes. You can turn the temperature up or down a bit here. It will depend on the type of chip you've got and how good your oven is. It's your call.
"Then after 40 minutes they should be on their way to super crispy. You want to mash them up again a bit if needed and hit them with a touch more oil and salt.
"Then they can go back in the oven for the last blast. This could range from 10 minutes to another 20 minute blast. Good luck and enjoy."
He did note that it won't work with French fries though. You need chips for the best results.

Does it make a difference?
Little you may know, adding a small amount of oil to frozen chips will make them crispier. It also helps them brown more effectively.
While most commercial frozen chips are "par-fried" (partially cooked in oil before freezing), adding a fresh layer of fat improves the heat transfer during the final bake or air fry. This can enhance the flavour and texture.
There are just a few rules to follow. Don't drench them in oil, as this will make them super greasy.
As well as this, you need to ensure the chips are in a single layer. Overlapping them creates steam, which prevents the edges from getting crunchy.
You could also add spices or garlic if you want to boost the taste even more. However, oil is considered the secret to enhance crunch and amazing flavour.
Just bear in mind that all ovens are different, so some may take less or more time to cook. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
