Many pasta fans seem to agree on the best supermarket brand, with one name popping up several times in online debates. Pasta is a cheap staple that many Brits buy as part of their weekly shop. It is a key ingredient for bulking up many meals to bring to work or to serve to the whole family at dinner time, and most bags of pasta can be bought for under £1. When it comes to the best pasta available in UK supermarkets, the answer can change depending on who you ask.

However, debates online seem to conclude that one brand trumps the rest. But what makes a good supermarket pasta? Well, the flavour is obviously a key factor to consider. However, the texture once it is cooked is also a major thing to consider, as that can really make or break a meal. And it turns out, you don't have to pay a lot of money for good pasta in the supermarket. In fact, one of the most common brands has been named by many pasta fans as the very best.

Several debates have taken place on social media sites like Reddit, with people sharing what they think the best pasta brand is. One brand seemed to come out on top every time.

DeCecco was mentioned as the best by several social media users. The popular pasta brand is available in most major UK supermarkets, and comes in various forms, such as spaghetti, rigatoni and fusilli.

The company was founded all the way back in 1886, and it has become a beloved brand since then. It is not surprising that it is often named as the best pasta brand in UK supermarkets, as it was founded in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

In one Reddit thread, pasta fans said the brand trumps the likes of Waitrose, Tesco and Lidl's own-label pasta products. One person said: "Just buy the DeCecco brand. Far better than the supermarket own brand and you don't need to spend loads of the Tesco Finest brand."

Another shared: "DeCecco is great (I am Italian, born and raised in Rome and then moved around and ended up here): Amongst many of us in Italy the brand DeCecco is seen as “the elitist” pasta."

And it's not just social media users who say so. DeCecco was named by Trolley.co.uk as the top pasta brand in UK supermarkets. It beat other popular brands such as Rummo and Barilla.

This was based on customer reviews, so the ranking is made up of what shoppers actually think of various pasta brands. A 500g bag of DeCecco Penne Rigate Pasta costs as little as £2 in retailers like Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Rummo and Barilla took the second and third place spots in that list, followed by Garofalo, Biona, Napolina, Sainsbury's and Waitrose.
