Today is National Liqueur Day (October 16) which many people would have guessed celebrates all things to do with the drink.

For those who are fans of the sweet stuff, there are plenty of choices in terms of flavours and brands.

We got to taste test some of the best liqueurs on the market all ranging from £13 to £31.55. Even better the products tested are all easily available to buy from supermarkets, Amazon or online.

We then ranked each item out of 10 to determine the winner. One item clearly stood out in the taste test costing just under £20.

Of course, drink responsibly when it comes to alcohol we tested the drinks in the article over a few weeks.

Passoa

Savoia Americano Rosso Amaro Dolce Liqueur (50cl)

Price £21.90 from Master of Malt plus delivery.

This liqueur has the right amount of bitterness and was different to the rest of the drinks that we tried which were sweet and sugary. The drink paired with ice is great on its own.

Overall score: 6/10.

La Tomato Liqueur 50cl

Price £19.99 from Drink Supermarket plus delivery.

The liqueur comes from Japan and certainly caters to a required taste. The tomato taste was prominent and felt as if I was drinking a weaker bloody Mary.

Overall score: 3/10.

Passoa Passion Fruit Liqueur 70cl

Price £13 from Asda online or in-store.

As you can imagine the sweet drink has hints of passion fruit but can be overpowering in terms of sweetness. The drink is great paired with ice but tastes even better when added to cocktails.

Overall score 5/10.

Kahula

Tiptree English Strawberry Gin Liqueur 35cl

Price £19.99 from Master of Malt plus delivery.

Slightly pricer on the list but the flavour certainly packs a punch. Brewed in Essex can used for a cocktail base or pairs perfectly just over ice.

Overall score: 9/10.

Kahlúa The Original Coffee Liqueur 70cl

Price £16.50 or £12 with Clubcard from Tesco online or in-store.

Those who love coffee will know about Kahlua. The drink can be paired with a variety of cocktails (a personal favourite being an espresso martini) or just on its own.

Overall score 6/10.

Somrus - Mango Cream Liqueur 70cl

Price £19.50 from Amazon and free delivery.

Coming in at a lower alcohol percentage the mango cream liqueur hits the spot in terms of sweetness and flavour. The indulgent drink is moreish and will soon become a new firm favourite in many households.

Overall score: 8/10.

Italicus Italian Bergamot Aperitivo 70cl

Price £31.50 from Waitrose plus delivery.

The light yet sweet liqueur can be paired with prosecco or just on its own. Perfect for those who don’t want an overpowering taste with an alcohol percentage of 20 percent.

Overall score: 6/10.

Nelson's Gold Caramelised Liqueur 50cl

Price £31.55 from Masters of Malt plus delivery.

The creamy drink feels a lot heavier in taste when compared to the other liqueurs with the item being created with handmade caramel.

Overall score 6/10.

Licor 43 Cuarenta Y Tres 70cl

Price £16.50 from Asda.

For people who are after a strong liqueur in terms of taste and percentage, this item will certainly do the trick. The taste was nice and sweet with a hint of vanilla and works brilliantly just with ice.

Overall score 8/10.
