Whether you like them loaded with clotted cream and jam, or simply melted butter, scones are the perfect treat to enjoy with a cup of tea.

This one recipe from James Martin will take your homemade scones to the next level - and it only takes 30 minutes from scratch. They're ideal for a weekend treat for yourself or to show off to your loved ones.

What's more, they only take around 10 minutes in the oven, meaning you can have homemade scones on your table in no time.

There is nothing more British than a scone filled with cream, and they can easily be made quickly with only a few ingredients according to BBC Food.

Method:

Firstly you should pre-heat your oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7. While that's heating, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl.

Then it's time to stir in the sugar, add the butter and rub quickly into the flour, creating a fine breadcrumb consistency.

Once that's done, add the milk, a little at a time and work it into a smooth dough - leave this to rest for 5-15 minutes before rolling.
Once it's ready, you can roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface until 2cm/¾in thick.
Then cut the dough using a pastry cutter. After this, the scones can be brushed with the beaten egg for a shiny glaze, or dusted with the flour for a matt finish - you can decide!
Finally place the scones on a greased baking tray and bake in the pre-heated oven for 10-12 minutes until golden-brown.
Take them out once done, wait to cool and serve slightly warm!
