Eggs are the perfect breakfast choice to kickstart your weekend, and now you can cook the perfect fried egg without the hassle of actually frying it.

While making a fried egg may seem straightforward, many struggle to get it just right, often ending up with a burnt offering stuck to the pan and a rubbery, undercooked yolk.

However, cook and founder of I Heart Umami, ChihYu Chiang, has revealed a game-changing hack for cooking the perfect fried egg with minimal effort and no frying pan in sight.

She explained: “Making fried eggs in the air fryer is a fast and easy alternative to stovetop cooking.

“Crispy fried eggs with creamy yolks are ready in minutes and with minimal cleanup.”

Not only is this method effortless, but it’s also a healthier alternative, using a fraction of the oil and saving on fat and calories.

The air fryer allows the egg to cook more evenly, resulting in a richer, creamier texture.

ChihYu added: “These air-fried eggs couldn’t be simpler, and they are perfect every time: crispy on the outside, with a creamy, runny yolk inside.”

Ingredients

One egg

Oil spray

Method

Simply spray the tray with oil (or grease with butter), place the empty tray in the air fryer at 200C, and preheat for five minutes.

It’s okay to use olive oil or butter for these air fryer eggs. Spray or grease the pan well and evenly so that the eggs don’t stick.

Crack an egg into a small bowl or mug, and when ready, gently pour it onto the sizzling hot tray.

Pop the tray into the air fryer at 180C for a spell, depending on your preference for the egg’s doneness.

ChihYu advised: “Air fry for three minutes for a sunny side up or over-easy egg. If you prefer a medium egg yolk, add one minute to the cooking time.”

Cooking time varies depending on the size and the temperature of the egg. Smaller and more room-temperature eggs will have a shorter cooking time.

Once done, retrieve the tray from the air fryer, slide a spatula under the egg to lift it free, and there you have a perfectly creamy fried egg to savour.
