The humble chicken is the talk of the town this week, with people debating whether or not to wash it before cooking.
The discussion started on the Slow Cooker Recipe and Tips Facebook page, where a user shared a TikTok video of a woman cooking a chicken without washing it first and claimed that it was "futile" to wash raw chicken. The video's comments section was flooded with people criticising her for not washing the chicken.
The Facebook post then asked for people's thoughts on whether they wash their raw chicken or not, sparking a lively debate.

Another said: "No need to wash. Cooking will kill any bacteria. Just make sure you wash your hands and anything the chicken touches.", reported the Manchester Evening News.
Other cooks mentioned that they wipe their chicken with kitchen towel, while others put it straight into the oven from the packaging.
A few suggested that washing meat "is an American thing", but another replied: "I'm in the southern part of the US, I've never washed mine. I have read about people doing it though."
