Eggs back in style due to 'brinner' trend of eating breakfast food as main meal
EGGS are back in fashion thanks to a growing trend for eating breakfast foods later in the day.
There is a growing trend for eating breakfast foods as main meals
Britons increasingly tuck into them as part of protein-rich Atkins and Paleo diets, according to the British Egg Information Service.
And the US fashion for “brinner” is catching on over here, when breakfast food is eaten for a midday meal.
Eggs are also being enjoyed in a wide variety of styles.
A BEIS spokesman told Farmers Weekly: “Recognition of their health benefits, and the end of the confusion over their effect on cholesterol, mean eggs are now being widely recommended as part of a healthy diet.”
Egg consumption in the UK rose two per cent last year – with 32 million eaten every day.
But Britain, with people eating on average 190 eggs per year, lags behind the rest of Europe with 215.
