The wild Rover: Latest footage shows rigorous testing - and how kids camouflage the model
LAND ROVER has released two more videos teasing the unveiling of the brand new Discovery later this month at the Paris Motor Show.
The new Discovery has been subjected to Land Rover’s most rigorous development testing
The first film shows the Discovery 5 in a variety of extreme environments around the world, in order to show how rigorous the testing programme for the new vehicle was and to reinforce the model's reputation for robustness and all-terrain credentials.
For the first time in the Discovery's history, which stretches back to the launch of the original model in 1989, development also included virtual testing before actual prototypes placed a wheel on mud, snow or sand.
This process also meant that engineers could improve the Discovery's aerodynamics, compared to its boxier predecessors.

Once prototypes were built - 294 in total, covering a million miles - they underwent over 35,000 tests in more than 20 countries, including in Dubai, where temperatures in excess of 40 degrees, at high altitude in Colorado and on ice in sub-zero temperatures in northern Sweden.
Further development was undertaken at Land Rover Experience Centres, where typical Discovery features such as wheel articulation and water wading were tested thoroughly.
The second - cuter and more light-hearted - video shows how Land Rover developed a new form of the camouflage that car companies cover their development vehicles in when testing.

The film shows how Jaguar Land Rover employed the offspring of JLR employees to create a new camouflage, using their artwork to create a new wrap to cover the car.
The kids then enjoy the result of their labours, taking a trip in the new Discovery that shows off its capabilities to the full.
We think it's fair to say that they enjoyed it.
