Used car expert shares three collectible models set to soar in value in the coming years

Whilst a number of popular modern cars face high depreciation rates, a motoring personality has shared three older models that are increasing in value.

An automotive YouTuber has recommended three used cars that are set to rise in value due to their increasingly collectable status.

Jonny Brighton runs the YouTube channel Cars With JB and regularly posts videos in which he recommends popular second-hand models that are enjoyable to drive and easy to live with.

In a recent video in which he discusses cars set to rapidly increase in value, Jonny recommended the Renault Clio V6 Renaultsport, which is surprisingly quick.

He explained: "Sometimes car manufacturers go out of their way to make cars that remind us of how good we could have it if every car they made was designed for enjoyment purposes, and that's exactly what Renault did when they gave us the Clio V6 Renaultsport, a car that proved that the golden era of turbos hadn't been in vain.

"These came with two phases [facelifts] and no doubt both will be worth a bunch more in the future. It comes with a 2.9-litre V6 block, which makes 255bhp and takes it [the Clio] to 60 in 5.6 seconds. That makes it the most powerful hot hatch of its age, beating the Alfa-Romeo 147 GTA, meaning you could probably call it a hyper hatch."

Based on the second-generation version of this popular French supermini, the Renault Clio V6 Renaultsport was built from 2001 to 2005 and featured many differences to lesser-powered variants.

The 2.9-litre V6 engine, typically seen on high-end versions of the executive Laguna, was fitted behind the front seats and powered the rear wheels. As a result, the Clio V6 Renaultsport was a much less practical model but very enjoyable to drive.

Since under 3,000 were made, examples of the Renault Clio V6 Renaultsport typically fetch around £40,000. However, looking at the value of other high-performance Renaults such as the 5 Turbo 2, that price is likely to double with age.

Another used car that Jonny noted will continue to rise in price is the Subaru Impreza P1, an incredibly rare variant of the sporty saloon that was widely successful on the rallying scene during the 1990s.

He added: "The Impreza P1 has been going up in value for quite some time now, in part due to its rarity and those incredibly attractive looks that come from it being a two-door saloon definitely help. Even though the 22B is the king of the Impreza world, a lot enthusiasts will tell you that the P1 is the better car all-in, developped by ProDrive to kill the market of JDM [Japanese domestic models] Imprezas being imported to the UK.

"Just 1,000 were built and I would argue that if ProDrive weren't so focused on these being genuinely performant and gave them some wider wheel arches and more rally-esque features, the prices would be even more aggressive than they are today."

Finally, Jonny suggested that drivers looking for a modern performance coupe that will not lose money should invest in a used Alfa-Romeo 4C, highlighting it looks attractive and has a story that collectors will love.

He continued: "There is definitely some bias on this one but the Alfa-Romeo 4C has to be on this list in my opinion, even if it has the longest time before it gains any kind of classic status.

"With its checkered history of not being a truly completed car by Alfa-Romeo, whilst also having a mesmerizing carbon fibre tub [body] and striking looks, it's a car with a story and is incredibly fun to drive. Outside of maybe the paddle gearbox, it is a proper enthusiasts car and, I bet in time, more enthusiasts will bump the prices of these up further, helped with the rarity of the car."
