A popular motoring personality has taken to YouTube to warn motorists who are about to embark on long summer road trips to always take one item with them.

Shahzad Sheikh runs the YouTube channel Brown Car Guy, and has gained nearly 30,000 subscribers thanks to his videos in which he discusses the latest motoring stories and shares advice that can help drivers save money or stay safe.

In a recent video, Shahzad looks at some advice from the breakdown cover service Start Rescue, warning drivers that, no matter how far they are going, they should always make sure they take along any medication they may need to take that day.

He advised: "So, as a typical scenario, you go to the shops or local supermarket. It might be just a few miles away, but you've left your stuff at home. If that's something that you really need or something that is quite urgent for you, keep in mind that things happen.

"Traffic happens, bad weather happens, tyres get punctured, you have a breakdown, you never know. So, always pack medication with you."

With many schools breaking up for the summer holidays, more families are set to head onto the road to see loved ones or have an enjoyable day out.

Whilst it may be stressful to know exactly what to pack, Shahzad warned drivers to never forget any medication that they or other occupants may need to take, even if it is not for a few hours.

The YouTuber warned that motorists cannot predict if their vehicle will break down or a tyre will be punctured, leaving them stranded for possibly hours on end.

Later in the video, Shahzad highlighted that he always takes some basic medication with him when he is travelling to places that may not have a pharmacy nearby.

He added: "I don't have any medication that I'm on, but I am prone to headaches - I get them quite often. As a result, in my bag or jacket pocket, I will always keep some ibuprofen with me.

"If I'm heading out on a longer journey, whether its in my car or otherwise, I'll always have that with me. It's always a really good idea, especially if you're travelling in an area where it could be hard to find a shop or pharmacy."

Lee Puffet, Managing Director of Start Rescue, suggested that all motorists should have a secure location in their car which can be used to store medication.

He explained: "No matter how far you are going, keep a small supply of in-date medication in a safe place in the vehicle where children cannot gain access, such as a locked glovebox.

"Take a copy of your prescription, too, if you are going further afield in case you need extra, especially with the summer holiday getaway approaching."
