DVLA car tax WARNING - If you forget to tax your car on time your it will be clamped
THE DVLA has launched a new campaign to warn motorists out what will happen if they fail to tax their vehicle on time.
Car tax: DVLA issues warning to drivers on tax avoidance
Car tax is a requirement of motorists to have before setting off in their car and you can be punished for failing to keep up to date with it.
It must be renewed every year and the rate is calculated based on the CO2 emissions your car produces. Any motorist that is caught without car tax can land a fine of up to £1,000.
It is set to increase for the third time in three years in April 2019. You can check out how vehicle excise duty has been altered over this period of time here.
Recent data suggests that the number of cars without valid vehicle tax on the road has increased since the abolition of the tax disc.
In fact, since car tax discs were abolished in 2014 the number of vehicles without tax have tripled, according to the Department for Transport (DfT) data.
In a bid to clamp down on the number of cars driving on the road without tax the DVLA has launched this new campaign.
The campaign based around the slogan ‘tax it or lose it’ is looking to remove as many cars without tax from the roads.
Drivers can have their car clamped if it does not have valid vehicle excise duty. You can also be handed fines, court action and you could even lose your car.
Car tax: DVLA issues warning to drivers on tax avoidance
DVLA Head of Enforcement Tim Burton said: “This campaign has a clear message for anyone who flouts the law in this way – tax it or lose it.
It’s never been easier to tax your car, so there really is no excuse.
“We would rather not have to clamp or remove vehicles, but this campaign highlights the consequences of not taxing a vehicle.
“Having your vehicle clamped is expensive and inconvenient – and you could end up losing your car.
Remember to tax your car! If you don’t it may be clamped or towed away. Is it worth the extra expense? https://t.co/ap6s74PkkP #TaxItOrLoseIt pic.twitter.com/3ftZ4ntMU3
