DVLA driving licence SHOCK - You could be instantly missing out on savings by doing this
MOTORISTS could be instantly missing out on savings by failing to do this simple thing when plying for their DVLA driving licence.
This Morning: Martin Lewis says to renew driving license online
By law, you are required to have a full valid driving licence to be able to drive on the roads in Britain.
There are a number of ways motorists can apply for the licence either by post or online.
However, motorists could instantly be missing out on saving by applying by post for their licence.
“Applying for your first provisional driving licence? Exciting times!," tweeted the DVLA.
“Did you know you can save money if you apply online?”
When a driver applies for their licence online it costs £34, while it costs £43 by post.
While this isn't a huge saving, applying online could also save you time.
Information on the DVLA website states that a licence will be delivered in around a week, while postal deliveries can take up to three weeks.
To be able to apply for a provisional, you must be able to do two things.
These are:
- be at least 15 years and 9 months old
- be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away
Here’s how you can apply for a driving licence
To apply for a provisional driving licence online you will need:
- an identity document unless you have a valid UK biometric passport
- addresses where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
- your National Insurance number if you know it

Motorists are also urged to keep their driving licence fully up to date and accurate.
Failing to keep your licence up to date could land you fines of up to £1,000.
Drivers should inform the motoring agency of changes to address, marital status and title.
If you do not let the DVLA know about these changes then you could be fined £1,000.
