Learner driver WARNING - How you can land a £400 fine before even getting in the car
LEARNER driver could land a £400 fine and land three penalty points for making a simple mistake.
Learner drivers are at risk of landing a £400 fine before they even get in the car.
One motorist was penalised for incorrectly displaying the L plates on his car.
He had not displayed the plates properly on his vehicle which made him susceptible to a fine.
In addition to this, the motorists also failed to stop for police and "driving other than in accordance with a licence."
Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: "Officers on targeted patrols in Windhill in relation to anti-Social driving reported a 24-year- old male for failing to stop for police and driving other than accordance with a licence.
"The driver had failed to display his L plates correctly.
"Today the male received a £440 fine and was issued with three penalty points after being convicted of both offences."
The Government outlines the rules learner drivers must abide by in relation to displaying L plates.
Learner drivers now allowed on the motorway in new UK law
1. When to display L plates
Any vehicle driven by a learner must display red L plates. In Wales you can use either red D plates, red L plates, or both.
The L plates must be clearly visible to others from:
- in front of the vehicle
- behind the vehicle
- You should remove or cover L plates when the vehicle isn’t being driven by a learner, unless it’s a driving school car.
2. Size of L plates
- By law, the L plates must be:
- a red letter on a white background
- the size shown in the diagram
