New VW e-UP! is now up to £6,000 cheaper - but should you buy this electric car?
THE new VW e-UP! has just received a £3,500 price reduction in the UK but should you buy this electric car?
Volkswagen e-UP! has just received a hefty price cut in the UK.
VW’s smallest electric car is now cheaper than before benefiting from a £3,500 reduction.
The new city car benefits from more standard-fit equipment including height adjustment for the driver’s seat.
In addition to this, a rear-view camera has also been built in to help with parking and a new seat trim has been added.
Now, the car costs £23,115 and costs £19,615 including the Government Plug-In Car Grant.
This represents a saving of £2,395 over the previous generation and VW says there is also an overall saving of £3,250 with the additional equipment factored in.
Volkswagen UK Electric Vehicles Product Manager Joe Laurence said: “The e-up! is a key part of our electric vehicle family, offering the ideal solution for zero tailpipe-emission urban motoring.
“For 2019, we’re offering customers even more value with the addition of several extra features to the e-up! as standard, as well as a major price realignment making the car even more affordable.
“This is, of course, on top of the tax and fuel cost savings which are built into the e-up!.”
One drawback is the car’s fairly limited range. It is powered by a 374 volt, 18.7 kWh battery pack to give a WLTP-rated range of 83 miles, and consumption of just 11.7 kWh/62 miles combined.
While this will be suitable for a lot of city drivers it will not be suitable for motorists that require travelling long distances.
A full charge takes nine hours from a standard three-pin plug, or six hours from a 3.6 kWh wall box but a rapid charge point can provide 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes.
The latest version of the car is now available to buy.
