Many motorists may never have taken the time to read the information on there back of their driving licence.
This is for good reason too as the information on the back of the licence is merely a collection of numbers which you may not have any comprehension of their meaning.
However, these secret codes could land you with a hefty fine if you ignore them.
Under section 12 on the driving licence are a number of 'information codes.'
These 'information codes' correspond to any rules and regulations which prohibit what and how you can drive certain vehicles.
Information codes can convey details such as any impairments the driver has such as physical ailments that could affect driving, such as a hearing condition, to whether they are an organ donor or not.
Of all the codes found on the driving licence the most common is '01' which relates to eyesight.
Any motorist that has a '01' code on the rear of their driving licence must wear glasses or contact lenses if they have informed the DVLA they need them while on the roads.
Driver caught flouting this rule can be immediately slapped with a £100 fine on-the-spot.
However, roadside punishments are rare and motorists are more likely to be taken to court for an offence where punishments are significantly more severe.
Motorists can land a fine that is worth up to 50 per cent of their salary (capped at £1,000).
Motorists must report to the DVLA if they have any changes to their eyesight and now require glasses or contact lenses.
In addition to this, drivers must also ensure the information on their driving licence is kept up-to-date and accurate or risk a £1,000 fine.
This includes temporary moves away, name changes or changes to your title.
