Poundland is preparing to bring back several stores that had already closed their doors earlier this year, offering rare good news for high streets facing widespread retail losses. The discount chain has been going through one of the biggest restructures in its history after being bought by investment firm Gordon Brothers in June.
As part of the shake‑up, it planned to shut 68 shops and two warehouses, with more than 1,300 jobs at risk. Many branches launched clearance sales before closing, with shoppers seeing discounts of up to 40% as the company began reducing its store numbers. By late September, 57 shops had already shut. But Poundland has now confirmed that six locations will reopen after new lease deals were agreed with landlords.

The move means the affected shops will be brought back into operation in the coming weeks.
The revival of these branches comes at a time when several other stores are still expected to shut soon.
Seven locations (Leicester, Hornchurch, Ballymena, Oldham, Weston Favell, Portadown, Mitcham) currently have closing‑down sales and are due to shut between November and January.
Another 28 shops also have clearance sales and are expected to close permanently, The Sun reported.
Alongside the store changes, Poundland has also overhauled parts of the business.
Its website has stopped selling products, and the Poundland Perks loyalty scheme is being wound down, with customers given until January 15, 2026, to redeem any remaining rewards.

Two distribution centres are also closing: the frozen and digital hub in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year, and the larger Bilston site in early 2026.
The retailer says the restructuring will leave it operating around 650 to 700 stores, compared with roughly 800 at the start.
The aim, it says, is to simplify pricing and return to the company’s original fixed‑price roots.
Around 60% of its grocery items are now £1, with Poundland planning to expand this simple pricing across clothing and general merchandise.
The chain has also stressed that the changes are intended to streamline operations and offer clearer value to shoppers after a difficult period for discount retailers.
