The latest salvo in the supermarket price war is part of a £125million investment by the mutual, which has already dropped the price of products such as eggs, chicken, bacon and bread.
Cooperative Food plans to add 100 shops this year and undertake 255 refits to cash in on a shift to buying “little, often and local”.
Retail chief executive Steve Murrells said: “This makes our price investment the biggest by a convenience retailer, helping to keep shopping in the neighbourhood."
