Diageo fizzes over takeover talk
GUINNESS and spirits giant Diageo’s shares jumped nearly 7 per cent yesterday amid speculation it could be a takeover target for Brazil’s richest man.
Brand ambassador, Christina Hendricks
Jorge Paulo Lemann and his partners in investment group 3G Capital are reportedly looking at a buyout of the FTSE 100 company, whose Johnnie Walker whisky has been promoted by Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks.
The investors have helped build Anheuser-Busch InBev into the world’s biggest brewer and are merging Heinz with Kraft Foods.
Analysts suggest 3G could support AB InBev, long mooted as a buyer of Grolsch and Peroni group SABMiller, in a bid for Diageo, whose shares were up 119½p to 1880p.
