Britain's busiest airports report record high numbers
HEATHROW and Gatwick pressed their claims for runway expansion as both airports reported record passenger numbers in March.
Heathrow and Gatwick have both reported record high numbers
Just under 3 million travellers passed through Gatwick, up 9.2 per cent on the previous year, putting it on course to serve more than 40 million passengers next year – a decade earlier than forecast by the Department for Transport.
Heathrow saw 5.95 million passengers travelling through, up 3.4 per cent on March last year.
The pair are awaiting the outcome of the Airports Commission review of capacity in the South-east, due shortly after the general election.
