Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer plots retirement
STEVE BALLMER, boss of US software giant Microsoft, revealed yesterday that he will retire within the next 12 months once a successor is found.
Ballmer, who succeeded Bill Gates in 2000, said it was the “right time” to leave as the group transforms itself into a devices and services company.
“We need a chief executive who will be here longer term for this new direction,” he said.
“I feel good about playing a role in Microsoft’s success.”
Microsoft said it will appoint a special committee to conduct the search for Ballmer’s successor.
