St Pancras boost for Eurostar
THERE has been a sharp rise in passengers from the North of England and Scotland using the Eurostar Channel Tunnel service since its switch to London’s St Pancras station.
November’s move from Waterloo coincided with the opening of the new High Speed 1 link from London to Folkestone.
Demand has soared and the company reported a
21 per cent rise in passengers to more than 2.1million in the first three months of 2008, compared with the same period last year.
The new station, making it easier for travellers from the North to connect with Eurostar, has combined with new fares from 68 towns and cities to more than double numbers from the East Midlands and Yorkshire. There have also been significant increases from the West Midlands, Greater Manchester and Scotland.
Chief executive Richard Brown said: “It shows High Speed 1 and our fabulous new station are capturing people’s imaginations.”
