GM rethinks sale of Vauxhall Opel
EXECUTIVES from US car giant General Motors were last night in talks with the German government amid speculation it could ditch its planned sale of European arm Vauxhall Opel.
GM is trying to secure funds from London and Berlin to enable it to keep the division, which employs 5,000 workers in Luton and Merseyside.
The firm had hoped to sell Vauxhall Opel to Canadian car-parts maker Magna or Brussels-based investor RHJ International but is re-thinking the decision amid concerns it could miss out on a European recovery.
