Rich List 2017: Wealthiest musicians in the UK REVEALED - who’s Number 1?
THE SUNDAY TIMES RICH LIST 2017 is on the verge of being published - and the music-specific rundown has champions with wealth of £780 million.
Rich List 2017: Wealthiest musicians in the UK
It’s Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell who sit on the throne, with an astronomical total wealth of just under £800m - up £20m year-on-year.
They finish ahead of Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber (£740m, up £25m) and U2 (£548m, up a huge £48m) on the tally.
Adele is a big headline-grabber in the ranking, mainly due to her young age: her fortune has seemingly boomed to a hefty £125 million thanks to the success of her latest album, 25.
This puts her at No19 on the Music Rich List but, more importantly, allows her to enter the overall Rich List for the first time.
Nancy Shevell and Paul McCartney are still on top

If Adele’s career lasts, she has the potential to be the highest-earning British musician of all time
Robert Watts, the compiler of The Sunday Times Rich List 2017, said: “What a year for Adele. Such strong record sales and a busy touring schedule propel her into our main list for the first time.
“Still in her 20s, if Adele’s career lasts as long as many of the other entries in our list, she has the potential to be the highest-earning British musician of all time.”
He added: “The rises we have seen from the Rolling Stones and other older bands are very striking. Many of these groups continue to play lucrative gigs well-into their 70s - with their wealthier fans prepared to stump up more for their tickets than younger fans of new acts.
“It seems rock music - be it performing or watching - is no longer just for the young.”
The Harrisons are still right up there, too

Sir Mick Jagger is the highest-earning Rolling Stone; taking fifth place on the Music Rich List behind Sir Elton John in fourth (£250m and £290m respectively). Keith Richards follows at No6 with £235m, up £15m).
Olivia and Dhani Harrison are in seventh with £210m - down £10m - while Michael Flatley and Ringo Starr share eighth with £200m.
The Top 10 is rounded off by Sting, whose £185m wealth is level with last year.
The Sunday Times Rich List will be published this Sunday, May 7.
