Steps fans launch campaign to beat Ed Sheeran to Number 1 'It'd be a TRAGEDY if it didn't'
STEPS fans have launched a huge social media campaign in a bid to beat Ed Sheeran to number one in this week’s album chart.
Steps fans have helped kickstart a campaign
The reformed quintet have just released Tears On The Dancefloor as their first original LP since 2000, and it soared to the summit in Monday’s midweek update.
However, Sheeran’s Divide - which has already been at the top for seven weeks - had overtaken it by the latest count-up yesterday.
Today is the final day of sales and streams before the week’s final rundown is announced tomorrow - and fans are desperate to put Steps back atop the pile.
The group have been number one on the list thrice before: with 1999’s Steptacular, 2001’s Gold: Greatest Hits and 2011’s Ultimate Collection, but their 2012 covers album Light Up The World stalled at the rear end of the Top 40.
The band have been hard on the promo trail all week
The record marks their 20th anniversary
“All you people complaining about Ed Sheeran - now's your chance to put your money where your mouth is,” journalist Darren Scott tweeted.
“Not 5,6,7,8 we want #TearsOnTheDanceFloor at #1 it be a tradegy if it didn't well deserved number 1 ALBUM,” one fan said.
“I've had the album on repeat on Apple Music since Friday last week. #Steps4no1 #Stream,” said another dedicated follower.
“Watching GreysAnatomy &streaming Steps in background #Steps4No1,” someone else quipped.

It will be followed by a nationwide tour later this year.
