Ed Sheeran wrote ‘Shape Of You’ for WHICH major pop act before keeping it for himself?
ED SHEERAN has responded to rumours that he wrote Shape Of You for Rihanna - by confirming that he originally intended it for another act altogether.
Ed Sheeran originally wrote Shape Of You for who?
Speaking to BeBox, the popstar - who is set for utter chart domination with the songs from new album Divide - let slip the surprising news.
“We started it for Little Mix originally,” he revealed.
“Then it kind of halfway through, it sounded like it could be good for Rihanna.
“And then we were like, ‘this is actually pretty good, you should keep it’.”
Shape Of You was intended firstly for Little Mix
Would the group have taken the track if the offer was made?
We were like, ‘this is actually pretty good, you should keep it’
Asked why he decided to keep it for his own record, he explained: “I didn’t want to keep it! I was like, ‘we should give it away because it doesn’t sound like me.’
“But this was way before I put guitars on it and made it loop pedal-friendly.
“The first draft, I wouldn’t have put on. It was very different.”
Divide sold an astronomical number of copies on its first day alone, and tomorrow its first-week figure is expected to be jaw-dropping.
