VIDEO: 'We're doomed!' Uh oh - Terrible reactions to UK Eurovison entry Electro Velvet
NUL POINTS? British hopes of Eurovision triumph are fading fast as Electro Velvet release official video for Still In Love With You
UK Eurovision entrants Electro Velvet
The Eurovision Song Contest is a celebration of international unity through music.
At, least that's the theory.
Increasingly, for the poor old United Kingdom it has become an exercise in futility - and often humiliation.
So, can this year's entry change things?
Probably not.
Electro Velvet may sing that that they are Still In Love With You - but our romance with the legendary event itself has hit rock bottom.
At the moment Italy's Il Volo are the runaway favourites with current odds of 2/1.
The UK are sitting in the middle of the pack at 20/1 - but this is mainly a reflection so far of the songs themselves.
As we all know, much of the voting has little or nothing to do with the song itself.
And confidence is in short supply at home, with famous fans of the show like Sherlock's Mark Gatiss tweeting,
"Just heard our Eurovison entry. Doomed again."

Electro Velvet themselves remain perkily optimistic.
"We have a fantastic song and will work as hard as humanly possible to bring the contest home and make our great nation proud," says the duo's Alex Larke.

The duo comprise Larke, a Mick Jagger impersonator, and Bianca Nicholas.
Nicholas auditioned unsuccessfully for The X Factor and then The Voice.
Some twitter users are less than impressed.
"Had a horrible dream last night that we sent a tribute band singer and failed Voice auditionee duo for #Eurovision signing (sic) 1920's rubbish. Oh." said twitter user BJL.
Another user CharlesB couldn't even take the band's name seriously, saying,
"Electro Velvet sounds like some sort of BDSM sex toy, to be honest."

Electro Velvet's entry is an upbeat pop swing number - in marked contrast to a succession of ballads and slower numbers over the last five years.
But can it turn the tide?
Back in the 1990s we were a permanent fixture in the top ten until the rot set in with 1999's 12th position for Precious with Say It Again.
We rallied briefly, with Jessica Garlick's Come Back finishing third in 2002 and Jade Ewen in fifth in 2009 with It's My Time.

But most years we have learned to resign ourselves to languishing at the bottom of the pile.Electro Velvet certainly don't seem to have a chance against current favourites, Il Volo from Italy.
The dapper lads are an Il Divo-style trio, complete with stirring popera vocals and a big orchestral finish.

This year's contest takes place in Vienna on May 23.
At this rate, the best we can hope for is that some other countries will be so forgettable or (even better) downright awful that they override partisan voting and keep us off the bottom.
Not exactly the spirit in which the show was originally conceived...
