CD Review: Iggy & The Stooges - Ready To Die
THE first album under the Iggy & The Stooges name for 40 (yes, 40) years, finds Iggy Pop reunited with guitarist James Williamson and drummer Scott Asheton.
No surprise, perhaps, that the Raw Power of their 1973 debut is of a slightly lower wattage these days. Iggy doesn't belly-flop off stage on to tables full of glasses any more either, but this is a lazy record.
Tracks like Burn, Job, Gun and the truly awful DDs, a hymn to large breasts, never rise above standard-issue heavy rock and the lyrics, from the writer of the Lust For Life album, are shamefully dumb.
The one stand-out track is Unfriendly World, a bruised and gruff love ballad which sounds like something off the last Leonard Cohen album.
