CD Review: Rick Wakeman, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth
IN its original 1974 form, Wakeman's second album was a real "seat of the pants" affair, culled from one of two live performances at the Royal Festival Hall (Wakeman couldn't afford to tape both) and beset by various technical problems, it nevertheless went on to sell 14 million copies.
It's not hard to work out why, either.
Now freshly re-recorded, with new material added, and available with the November issue of Classic Rock magazine, it oozes great tunes and ferociously good playing, even if some of the songs sound a bit dated.
A genuine prog rock classic.
