CD Review: Van Morrison, Born To Sing; No Plan B
AFTER the first seven tracks of this, Van Morrison’s umpteenth mediocre album in recent years, the listener might venture that a good Plan B for Van would be to abandon the lazy jazz-by-numbers routine and write some decent songs.
But then along comes In Money We Trust, a sly, ominously-chugging low-key rant against capitalist values that has echoes of both Fela Kuti and the O’Jays.
One great track is a poor return for a whole album but then the only person exercising quality control on Van’s music seems to be Van himself, sadly.
Verdict: 2/5
