Album review - Eurovision Song Contest DÜSSELDORF 2011: Various (EMI)
It’s easy to laugh at this rag-bag of songs from countries you couldn’t pinpoint on a map but it’s really not that terrible.
There’s the Manhattan Transfer-esque vocals of the Belgian contender, various folk offerings and the shamelessly traditional Eurovision sound of Boom-Boom from Armenia. Not much regional colour – a little balalaika on Cyprus – but plenty to enjoy.
Most surprising is bookie William Hill’s favourite, the sexy young operatic Amaury Vassili from France and second favourites, our very own Blue who are already big in Europe, with the immediately catchy I Can.
Verdict: 3/5
