Album review - Asa: Beautiful Imperfection (Dramatico)
THIS is a funny one but funny in a totally gorgeous way.
French/Nigerian Asa has come up with an album that brings together retro soul with bouncy little African squiggles and reggaeish beats.
A couple of the ballads show off what a beautiful, almost Corinne Bailey Rae-esque, voice she has.
The songs are strong whether they are jumping, heartbreaking or finger-snappingly cool but it’s Asa’s personality, from broken spectacles on the cover to the chirpy little voice, that really comes over.
One to check out wherever you are coming from musically.
Verdict: 3/5
