Album review: Tony Christie - Now's The Time! (Acid Jazz)
THE tail-wind provided by Peter Kay and that revival of Amarillo could easily have wafted Tony Christie in the direction of a golden oldie-based career.
But with a little help from his son, and fellow Sheffield balladeers Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley, Christie celebrates his 50th year in music with an album of original tracks marinaded in the sounds and style of the Sixties.
From the frenetic marriage of Tom Jones cockiness and Andy Williams cool on the title track to the thunderous, Spaghetti-western stylings of Longing For You Baby, Now's The Time oozes wit and style.
Verdict: 4/5
