Review: I Medici by Ruggero Leoncavallo (Deutsche Grammophon)
THERE are Wagnerian overtones in this passionate tale of intrigue.
The composer, Ruggero Leoncavallo, was best known for his opera Pagliacci and I Medici was not a ringing success, despite its fine orchestration and choral writing.
However, it has powerful moments which are sung with considerable verve by Placido Domingo.
