40 years on and Beatles still top of the pops in America
THE BEATLES have topped a poll of America's favourite music-makers, more than 40 years after they conquered the U.S.
The Fab Four beat homegrown talent such as The Eagles, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson to claim the gong for most popular band across the pond.
The Liverpool band weren't the only Brits to feature in the poll, released for the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, with The Rolling Stones in sixth position and Coldplay at 18th.
Notable absentees in the top 20 list were Led Zeppelin, The Who and Radiohead.

The Beatles were among the top four choices across all the generations polled and were named most popular in the 50 to 64 age group.
For late teens and those in their 20s, Michael Jackson came top, following massive exposure over his recent death.
Americans in their 30s and 40s named The Eagles as their favourite band while for music lovers over the age of 65, Frank Sinatra reigned supreme.
The poll of 1,815 U.S. adults, conducted by the Pew Research Centre, also found that two-thirds of respondents listened to rock music over country, r’n’b, hip-hop, jazz and classical.
