Christmas number one 2018: Who will be Christmas No 1 this year - what song?
THE CHRISTMAS Number One will be announced at 5.45pm on Friday, December 21. But who will be the Christmas Number One this year?
X Factor: Dalton Harris performs his WINNERS single
Novelty charity release We Built This City hit the number 2 spot in yesterday’s midweek update.
But this was less than 1,000 combined sales behind leader Ava Max’s tune Sweet But Psycho, who climbed to the top.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande’s thank u, next hit was sitting firmly at No 3.
This could mean Ava Max could be victorious this year.
Ladbrokes are putting even money on Ava Max, which means they will double their money if they root for her.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Ava Max has leapfrogged Ariana Grande into top spot in the betting, while LadBaby continues to drift."
Here are the odds for who will be this year’s Christmas number one:
Ava Max - Even money
Ariana Grande - 6/4
LadBaby - 4/1
Mariah Carey - 20/1
Dalton Harris - 25/1
Ed Sheeran - 25/1
Flakefleet Primary School - 25/1
Freya Ridings - 25/1
Miley Cyrus & Mark Ronson - 25/1
Pinkfong - 25/1
Take That - 25/1
The Fire Tones - 25/1
The Pogues - 25/1
However, it is unlikely LadBaby will claim the number one spot.
His song may be number one on the UK iTunes charts, but he has not had much support whatsoever on streaming services.
They now make up a huge part of the composition of the charts.
The song wasn’t even in the Top 200 on Spotify in the UK over the weekend.
BBC News also revealed during yesterday’s midweek update that LadBaby's sales did not include Sunday data from Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon.
Both Ava Max and Ariana Grande are both flying on these streaming services.
The Official Charts Company counts 100 premium audio or video streams as one sale, as well as 600 free or ad-supported audio or video streams as one sale.
Last year, the Christmas number one went to Ed Sheeran and his song Perfect.
But his album Divide missed out to Eminem during the same week.
