Xbox One backwards compatibility list: Microsoft has GOOD news and BAD news for fans
XBOX ONE Backwards compatibility is the subject of two rather interesting announcements by Microsoft.
Xbox One backwards compatibility list will expand and improve in 2017
Xbox One backwards compatibility will continue to expand and improve in 2017, with some blockbusters coming to the games list in 2017.
Microsoft's Phil Spencer told Twitter followers that January 2017 looks good for fans of Xbox One backwards compatibility.
"January looks pretty good for BC," he told one Twitter follower.
But the good news ends there, because Microsoft's Larry Hryb said that no new games will be added to backwards compatibility until next year.
"Before Xbox One Backward Compatibility team takes some time off for holidays, we have 6 new releases today," a post reads. "Releases resume after New Year."
Xbox One backwards compatibility was recently bolstered by the release of the BioShock trilogy.
One of the most requested batch of Xbox One backwards compatible games, Xbox 360 versions of BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite have finally been ported over to the Xbox One.
The ports, which have been in the works for quite some time, may have been delayed to give the BioShock Remastered Collection some breathing room on Xbox One.
They join the likes of Rayman Legends, Shadowrun, Space Ark, Shotest Shogi and Pure.
Xbox Games with Gold for January 2017 announced
To celebrate the anniversary of Xbox One Backwards Compatibility, Microsoft recently made classic Xbox 360 RPG Lost Odyssey available as a free download until the end of the month.
This is separate from the Games with Gold December 2016 free games list, which includes Burnout Paradise.
Lost Odyssey joined the backwards compatibility scheme earlier this year, but was previously only available on disc.
Microsoft has now added the game to the Xbox One digital store, alongside fellow role-playing game Blue Dragon.
Unfortunately, however, Blue Dragon isn't available as a free download, but Lost Odyssey is until December 31.
