FIFA 17 breaks UK sales record after PS4 price drop
FIFA 17 breaks a huge sales record, as prices are reduced by UK retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury's, Argos, Morrisons, Tesco and more.
FIFA 17 scores a sales victory over PES 2017
FIFA 17 has scored a victory over PES 2017 by breaking a sales record in the UK.
Not only are week one FIFA 17 sales up by 18% over FIFA 16, but it's enjoyed the biggest launch week ever for a FIFA game, beating the previous record held by FIFA 13.
It's fared better than PES 2017, which actually sold 3% fewer copies at retail than PES 2016 after its first week.
It's enough to send FIFA 17 straight to the top of the all-format sales chart, where it's followed by fellow new release Forza Horizon 3.
The majority of FIFA 17's sales came on PS4, which is unsurprising given the number of discount deals and bundles that were available at launch.
Retailers like Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Argos all had discounts on the game, as well as some pretty good bargains on console bundles.
Argos, for example, was selling the 500GB PS4 with a copy of FIFA 17 and the choice of a second game out of Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky or Ratchet and Clank for just £149.99.
Multiple retailers followed suit, although GAME was forced to apologise to customers after running out of stock.
FIFA 17 introduces updated physical interactions between attackers and defenders, as well as a story-based single-player mode called The Journey.
The Journey sees players assume the role of Alex Hunter, who experiences all the highs and lows of being a professional football player.
Unfortunately, however, the story-based game mode isn't coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, despite interest from fans.
