It looks like two Black Ops games are set to return as an update to the PlayStation Store appears to have leaked some new ports of the classic Call of Duty games.

As spotted over on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, both the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have appeared as new versions for the PS4 and PS5. There’s not a whole lot of further information attached, but it doesn’t seem like these are remakes or remasters and are instead straight ports of the original games.

This might feel like odd timing for Activision given the recent announcement of Modern Warfare 4, but things get a little clearer when you take into account the Nintendo Direct scheduled for later this afternoon.

Back when Microsoft was trying to acquire Activision Blizzard, it made a promise to continue to bring Call of Duty to other platforms – including the Nintendo Switch. We now know that Modern Warfare 4 will be making the jump to the portable platform this October, and it looks like we could be getting even more than we expected.

Given the power of the Switch 2, it seems like a no-brainer for it to be able to run a straight up port of these older Call of Duty titles. And if they’re coming to Switch, why not release the same ports across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, too?

The first two Black Ops games are currently only available to play via PC or Xbox backwards compatibility. They’re also widely considered to be some of the best Call of Duty campaigns, with multiplayer and zombies also highly regarded.

However, it’s currently unclear if Activision will be porting across just the campaign or whether multiplayer and zombies will be included too. With the launch of Modern Warfare 4, including multiplayer could potentially strip away some of that live service audience.

If the Black Ops ports are indeed real, we’ll likely find out in the next few hours. The Nintendo Direct for June will start at 3pm BST.

Would you play a port of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 in 2026?
